The Bow Group event: "AV: Fairer votes or a compromise nobody wants?" took place on Tuesday February 8th at 7pm at the House of Commons. A packed Committee Room 11 witnessed a lively debate in which Katie Ghose, Chief Executive of the Electoral Reform Society put the case for a Yes vote in the May 5th referendum, and Stephen Parkinson, National Organiser of the NO Campaign put the opposing point of view.
Chairman Brian Cattell said: "With less than three months to go until the referendum, the respective campaigns are now starting to get moving and I am glad that the Bow Group has had an opportunity to hear the arguments first hand. I am grateful to both Katie and Stephen for contributing to what was a very good discussion. It is fair to say that the mood of the meeting was somewhat sceptical about AV as an electoral system for the UK but I look forward to following the evolution of the debate over the coming weeks."
