Bow Group Health Research Fellow, Jon Stanley, on Dr Philip Lee

I am troubled by Dr Phillip Lee's attitude to his election committments and to his constituents. His constituency voted to leave the EU but over and above that it is clear the majority of the UK just wants to get on with Brexit, He won the 2017 election with an automatic selection and was clear this meant leaving the Single Market and Customs Union. Since then nothing has changed. If Dr Phillip Lee had done this as a GP and quit work and walked off under a contract he signed a year ago he would not be cheered by his colleagues. He would be referred immediately to the GMC. He should resign and stand again in a by election. There were no excuses for this stunt today and he should reflect on whether a cavalier attitude to a public appointment brings the profession into disrepute.
