The Anti-conservative Relationships and Sex Education Law Should be Repealed

Jul 9, 2019 | Articles, Publications

The Department for Education has published the final version of its guidance for the implementation of compulsory Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) in England’s 24,323 schools, which is to become compulsory in schools from September 2020.

Sex education is already compulsory to an extent in secondary schools. Pupils must learn about reproduction and chromosomes as part of the Science curriculum. Although there is no requirement to teach anything beyond that, many schools already do so as part their PSHE programs. However, the new guidance goes well beyond teaching children the basic facts of life. It is a power grab by the state. RSE is the UK branding of a wider move by the UN to roll out Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) across the globe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yTvdCHgEHQ

The guidance is peppered with the platitude that ‘parents are the primary educators of their children’, while fundamentally undermining their rights as primary educators. It also repeatedly states that it must be ‘age-appropriate’, without defining what that means: it is a term so vague that it can be interpreted in almost any way, and many materials already available in primary schools are grossly inappropriate.

One of the biggest controversies about RSE is that it must be ‘LGBT-Inclusive’. In bowing to the demands of the mostly-childless LGBT lobby, the Westminster elite has again proven it is wholly out-of-touch with the vast majority of parents and grandparents who do not want the state to undermine traditional family and faith values by forcing children to learn about homosexual relationships and transgenderism at an age which is too much too young. However, the fake-Conservative government is deliberately usurping the role of parents as primary educators, determined to impose a certain set of values about sex and relationships on children which are anti-conservative, anti-family and anti-faith.

The legislation which has caused these changes is the Children and Social Work Act 2017. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2017/16/contents/enacted

The original purpose of this bill was to strengthen regulations concerning the safeguarding of the 1% of children in England who are in care, now referred to by the government as ‘looked-after children’. This itself was a good objective, but the bill was hijacked by a group of ‘progressive’ MPs led by Stella Creasy, who tabled an amendment to make RSE compulsory in secondary schools and Relationships Education compulsory in primary schools for all of the 99% of children in England who attend school. This amendment became Section 34 (1) of the Act when it was passed in Parliament. The only children it will not apply to the approximately 1% of school age children who are home educated.

The Act itself does not specifically require RSE to be LGBT-inclusive in either primary or secondary schools, but successive Education Secretaries have bowed to most of the demands of the LGBT lobby in its implementation.

In Secondary schools, parents are still allowed to request to withdraw their children from the Sex Education component of RSE, but not the Relationships component. For example, a 40-minute lesson may spend 20 minutes teaching 12-year-olds the mechanics of gay sex, and 20 minutes discussing homosexual relationships. Parents will be allowed to remove a child from the half of the lesson, but they would have to return for the final half. However, from September 2020, this is not an absolute right. A headteacher is allowed to deny a parent’s request and force their child to attend the lesson anyway. In addition, children who have passed their 15th birthday will be able to opt themselves back in, even if their parents opt them out, in step with the growing ‘progressive’ movement towards ‘children’s rights’.

Primary schools are required to teach Relationships Education but not Sex Education, although they are not prevented from teaching Sex Education if they wish. Thus, all children must take Relationships Education, either as a stand-alone subject or embedded into another subject such as PSHE or English.

There appears to be one small concession to parents made between the draft guidance published in February 2019 and the final guidance of June 2019, in that Relationships Education in primary school does not have to be LGBT-inclusive. However, the decision about this is left with the school. Primary schools must have a policies on Relationships Education and Sex Education, but it is left up to the headteacher what is in the policies.

If a primary school head chooses to teach about homosexual relationships and transgenderism to 5-year-olds, parents will have no right to withdraw their children from such lessons from September 2020, although they will be allowed to remove their children from primary school lessons about gay sex.

Despite this, Education Secretary Damien Hinds has stated in the strongest terms that he wants to see all primary school children learn about same-sex parenting. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/9374587/damian-hinds-strongly-encourage-lgbt-lessons/

It is unsurprising therefore, that many parents are considering home educating their children to keep them away from indoctrination by the progressive, cultural Marxist and LGBT lobbies, which will undermine their ability to pass on Judaeo-Christian or conservative traditional family values to their children if that is their wish.

If recent controversies are any guide to the future then they are right to be concerned. Since Clause 28 was repealed by Tony Blair’s government, schools have been allowed to teach about homosexuality and transgenderism. The document ‘Too Much, Too Young’ https://www.christian.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/tmty2016.pdf published by the Christian Institute details lesson materials which are often extremely explicit and sexualising in nature that have been recommended to children as young as 5-years-old by 11 of England’s 152 Local Education Authorities, as well as London Mayor Sadiq Khan’s education portal called ‘Healthy Schools London’.

There are a number of schools where activists have been determined to implement LGBT lessons against the wishes of parents and have caused well-publicised protests by parents concerned about LGBT indoctrination of their children, including:

•Anderton Park Primary School, Birmingham where parents staged a protest after it was reported that confused children came home saying that it was possible to have ‘two mummies’ or ‘two daddies’.

•Parkfield School Primary School, Birmingham whose headteacher Andrew Moffat insisted that children learn his own ‘No Outsiders’ program. He was forced to withdraw the program after protests from parents but has now said that children will have to continue with LGBT lessons in September 2019. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-48853462

•Heavers Farm Primary School, Croydon which was forced to back down after trying to get all their pupils to attend a Gay Pride celebration for Schools Diversity Week, 2018. https://www.croydonadvertiser.co.uk/news/croydon-news/croydon-mum-calls-heavers-farm-1743386 This year, 2019, the same school suspended a 10-year-old Christian pupil for 5 days after alleging that she made ‘homophobic remarks’.

These are just the tip of the iceberg however. Many more schools have adopted programs which state ostensibly that they are ‘confronting homophobic bullying’ or ‘teaching equality,’ but expose children to LGBT propaganda materials. ‘Educate and Celebrate’ which is already used in numerous schools, states that its aim is to ‘smash heteronormativity.’ https://schoolsweek.co.uk/how-to-transform-your-school-into-an-lgbt-friendly-place-by-dr-elly-barnes-and-dr-anna-carlile/

Books have been written specifically targeted at young children such as ‘King and King’ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_%26_King aimed at teaching 5-year-old about gay marriage, ‘Mommy, Mama and Me’ https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/197684/mommy-mama-and-me-by-by-leslea-newman-illustrations-by-carol-thompson/9781582462639/ aimed at normalising the idea of homosexual parenting, and ‘My Princess Boy’ https://www.amazon.co.uk/My-Princess-Boy-Cheryl-Kilodavis/dp/1442429887 aimed at normalising transgenderism to the youngest of school children. Worksheets such as ‘The Genderbread Person’ https://www.genderbread.org and ‘The Gender Spectrum’ promote the unscientific nonsense that everyone is gender-fluid, and can choose what gender they are. These books and materials are adorned with bright colours, friendly fonts and smiling, happy pictures designed to make them attractive to children, but instead of affirming boys as boys and girls as girls, or promoting traditional family values, they undermine them and sow confusion.

When vulnerable children are confused by transgender propaganda, it is unsurprising that the number of children presenting themselves with gender dysphoria has increased 4,000% in the last decade. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2018/09/16/minister-orders-inquiry-4000-per-cent-rise-children-wanting/

Many of these children go on to be given puberty blockers which interfere with their natural physical development, cross-sex hormones which make them sterile, and eventually even surgery to remove their breasts or reproductive anatomy.

To add the propaganda effort, the LGBT lobby has created a whole calendar of events which it is expected that schools will promote and celebrate. Thus, February is LGBT History Month, June is LGBT Pride month, the first week of July in Schools Diversity Week, which leads up to LGBT Pride London on the first weekend of July, which is followed by LGBT Pride parades in as many towns and cities as they can possibly organise over the rest of July and August. The only surprise Is that there is a lull from September to January, but it probably won’t be long before this is also filled.

Whereas, most people were happy and comfortable with the ‘live and let live’ tolerance of classic liberalism, refusing to celebrate gay pride and transgenderism today is increasingly becoming something which is questioned, penalised and punished. The UK has moved dangerously away from free speech and is being steered towards compelled speech, and de facto sanctions for perceived offences of speech crime, thought crime and face crime for not affirming the LGBT agenda.

What is needed at a legislative level is to roll back the legislative clauses, sections and acts which have undermined freedom in order simply to appease every demand of powerful LGBT lobbying groups like Stonewall, Mermaids and others. In particular, laws in which homosexual and transgender activists have demanded changes concerning families, children and education need to be revisited. Sections 34 and 35 of the Children and Social Work Act 2017 should be repealed before compulsory Relationships and Sex Education is implemented in September 2020, and the values of the next generation of children is fundamentally and deliberately altered by a brazen act of ‘progressive’ social engineering.

In addition, the Equality Act 2010 must be either be reformed so that it enshrines freedom of speech, or scrapped altogether and replaced with pre-existing Equality law. In particular, the odious Section 149 or ‘Public Sector Equality Duty’ which undermines freedom of speech must go. Section 149 requires all employees of public institutions to ‘foster good relationships’ with people or groups having protected characteristics. This has come to be interpreted that anyone opposing same-sex marriage or stating the scientific fact that there are two sexes determined by anatomy and chromosomes is in breach of the law and liable for discipline or dis-employment.

Ofsted, the schools’ inspector needs root and branch reform so that it is concerned wholly with developing world-class educational standards in the UK maximising the skills and talents of pupils to compete and thrive post-Brexit, rather than an illiberal-leftist obsession with ‘equality, diversity and inclusion’ and progressive but non-traditional ‘Fundamental British Values’ over everything else.

A political party which undertakes to do this and has the courage to stand up to LGBT extremism without itself being infiltrated by extremists of other varieties, will have a groundswell of support. The nation is crying out for a change in politics and a government which will restore a healthy balance of social conservatism and classic liberalism, while rejecting the totalitarian intolerance of progressive illiberalism which has grown like a cancer in the nation during the Blair/Brown/Cameron/May years.
