The government has lost sight of the impact of rising energy prices as it pursues its Green Agenda, forgetting the priority should be on keeping the lights and heating on for Britons, Ben Harris-Quinney has said.

Speaking on the issue that energy bills are expected to rise significantly this year, the Bow Group chairman told talkRADIO: “We are saying that whilst Net-Zero and the Green Agenda is seen in the aisles of Westminster as sacrosanct, it isn’t.

“What is sacrosanct is keeping the lights on and keeping people’s budgets in check. Price rises like 100% over two years in energy is going to bankrupt a lot of people and a lot of businesses. The government needs to wake up to that reality.”

Harris-Quinney also criticised the government for failing to focus on energy security, condemning “the naivety of the policies they have been pushing — a lot of which has been virtue-signalling over the Green Agenda stuff — and just completely taking their eye off the ball on things like gas storage, gas procurement, even coal power stations.

“It’s all very well having these high ideals about the environment… but everyone needs to keep the lights on. Everyone needs to keep their heat on. And that is the priority and the government has lost sight of that.”
