Bow Group Chairman Ben Harris-Quinney has said that the Conservative government should “ditch its left-of-Blair policies” and “start being the conservatives they were elected to be. Slash taxes, slash immigration, slash debt, stop being woke and start fighting woke”.

Ben Harris-Quinney made the remarks after Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak was cleared by the Parliamentary standards authority over his and his wife’s tax affairs.

The Bow Group chairman told The Express: “There is nothing sensible or conservative about paying a lot of tax, but the Chancellor should spend a lot more time lowering the tax burden on the public than he has for himself.

“It would be wrong however to suggest this issue ends Sunak’s career or future prospects.

“There has clearly been back-biting from rival candidates to knock his popularity, and the effects of that will likely diminish quickly.”

The chairman of the UK’s oldest conservative think tank added that the Conservative government should drop its “Blairite” policies and become the “conservatives they were elected to be”, adding that the government should “slash taxes, slash immigration, slash debt, stop being woke and start fighting woke”.

“If they do that they will be amazed how quickly their fortunes improve,” Mr Harris-Quinney added.
