Bow Group Chairman Ben Harris-Quinney has said there is a rising sense of cronyism in the UK, following reports that Lord Hogan-Howe, formerly appointed head of Scotland Yard by then-Mayor of London Boris Johnson, is seeking a new role leading Britain’s FBI.

Reports earlier this week claimed that Lord Hogan-Howe, predecessor to Cressida Dick as head of London’s Metropolitan Police Service, is looking to take on the high-profile role of head of the National Crime Agency (NCA), the UK’s equivalent of the FBI.

Ben Harris-Quinney, chairman of The Bow Group, told talkRADIO’s Kevin O’Sullivan: “What is of public concern is that both Cressida Dick and Lord Hogan-Howe have a very close connection to Boris Johnson.

“What has grown up — with all of the PartyGate stuff and the question marks over Number 10 — is this sense of cronyism. This sense there is a class of people — what in America might be described as the Deep State — in charge and whatever you do, the same people pop up in positions of power.”

Mr Harris-Quinney continued: “I think in the minds of the public, that massively erodes public trust because there has to be that sense that justice is impartial, is impervious, and will pursue evidence, not trends, fashions, or what the prime minister wants or what powerful people want — but will pursue the evidence.

“I think perhaps, particularly in the last few years, the justice system in all of its manifestations — from the police to the judiciary — have lost a bit of that public faith.”
