The Bow Group Senior Patron Awarded Poland’s Highest State Civilian Honour

Jun 14, 2019 | Broadcast Media, News, Print Media

Sir Roger Scruton, The Bow Group senior patron, has been awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland by the Polish President Andrzej Duda. This is the highest State civilian honour that can be awarded to foreigners.

Sir Roger gave a speech on the legacy of communism and the emergence of new nationalist movements. Speaking in the Polish Parliament, he noted population shifts from east to west as well as the demographic effect of these shifts in the countries affected. He also spoke about the social and cultural costs suffered as a result of the global capitalist economy.

He pointed to the growing rift between the left intelligentsia and human nature, and the slow disappearance of the socialism versus capitalism paradigm. These, he says, are being replaced by enlightened liberalism as opposed to residual nationalism, with its sentiments of identity and belonging.
