JOE BIDEN will have at least three strict red lines in any future UK/US trade talks with Boris Johnson, including on areas which could anger Brexiteers, an expert has said.

Britain is seeking to strike a close transatlantic partnership with the US after finally leaving the European Union on December 31, 2020. The UK has already struck historic trade deals with more than 70 countries around the world, including Canada, Japan and Mexico, but is chasing a lucrative deal with the US.

International Trade Secretary Liz Truss has been leading talks with US trade representative Robert Lighthizer over the past 12 months and the UK has already outlined a number of deal-breakers, including the NHS and chlorinated chicken.

Former foreign policy adviser to the UK and EU, Ben Harris-Quinney says the Biden administration is set to bring a number of new demands to the negotiating table.

The Chairman of the independent Bow Group think-tank, says Mr Biden is likely to want to the UK to align on issues, including climate change, global migration and foreign aid.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, he said: “The NHS will remain a red-line that is unlikely to be breached, but it is likely Biden will want the UK to commit to ever heightening green standards, global migration agreements, and international initiatives like the continuation of our aid spending.

“Whilst Boris has indicated his desire to go even further than the EU on implementing green regulations, ultimately they will be very bad for business and for the average British citizen when it comes to the cost of products, cost of living, and the economy generally.”

The UK will host the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow later this year and the Government has already committed to cutting greenhouse gases by 68 percent by 2030 and net zero by 2050.

On his first day in office, Mr Biden returned the US back into the Paris Agreement, which aims to curb global warming to 2C above pre-industrial levels.

Mr Harris-Quinney has issued a warning for the Prime Minister and claimed the UK did not leave the EU to enforce more regulatory red-tape around green issues and to open up borders to the rest of the world.
