The Conservative Party Must Get Back in Touch with the Grassroots Movement

Jan 21, 2022 | Broadcast Media, News | 0 comments

Chairman of The Bow Group Ben Harris-Quinney has said that Brexit was the signal that the public wanted things done in a more patriotic, conservative way, but a succession of Conservative Party leaders have promised that, and not delivered.

Mr Harris-Quinney told TRT World that the scandal-plagued prime minister had launched a campaign to save himself – dubbed ‘Operation Red Meat’ – and announced a raft of right-wing policies in a bid “to appease backbenchers like David Davis that just stood up and called for him to resign”.

Remarking that the narrative of the conservative movement is moving “ever further towards conservatism”, Mr Harris-Quinney said: “Brexit was an indication the British public wanted to see things done very differently and they wanted to see things done in a patriotic, conservative way.

“You’ve had a succession of Conservative leaders that have promised to do that, and not delivered.

“So what needs to happen is that more than just changing leaders. The Conservative Party needs to urgently reform, democratise, and put itself back in touch with that grassroots movement.”
